An Emphatic YES!

Exhibition:
The exhibition will run in conjunction with the London Design Festival (18th – 26th September). This cross-disciplinary installation will benefit from the diversity of world-class design involved in the Festival and will mark the launch of Giannina Capitani’s inaugural collection of knitted furniture and interior products. The textiles will be combined with the temporal wall and floor paintings by Good Wives and Warriors to create a multi-media, site-specific installation.

This exhibition will merge the 2D with the 3D. Wall and floor paintings will react to and be influenced by the knitted objects, blurring the perception of where the objects end and the paintings begin. ‘An Emphatic YES!’ will continue to break down the barriers between the fine arts and the applied arts, creating a cohesive installation by applying their collaborative aesthetic to the furniture, the knitted textiles, the walls and the floor.

As the title suggests, ‘An Emphatic YES!’ will be a positive and engaging exhibition which will provide the viewer with an inviting and over whelming visual experience. The installation will combine the colourful geometric patterns of Capitani’s knitted structures with the intense detail, natural forms and complex shapes of Good Wives and Warriors paintings. Inspired by geometric and visual trickery, mathematical patterns and natural structures, this exhibition will explore the juxtaposition of graphic imagery and the fluid anarchy of organic forms.

During times of economic uncertainty, designers often feel compelled to explore the questions facing the changing future of their craft. As we have seen in previous eras, design has often shifted from decoration to utility, favouring a simplified design aesthetic over the detailed skill and labour of the artisan. We are now teetering on the edge of similar design quandaries. Which way will the scales tip? In this exhibition we intend to create world of exuberance, vitality and beauty that celebrates decoration and design, allowing us to show case our craft abilities and in turn lift the public spirit in the times of economic instability and make a last ditch attempt for positivity and optimism in these trying times.
